Student Qualifying Criteria

  • Be of good conduct and moral standing (Verifiable)
  • Admitted to a formal training institution in Africa (other cases on merit)
  • Committed to serving their community in Africa to advance a just and moral society with integrity.
  • Committed to partnering with a local church or other religious group for the duration of formal education (includes distance learning programs)
  • Recommended and commended by a church or religious group based in Africa
  • Must have evidence that they extremely deserving the scholarship like total orphans (other cases will be thoroughly evaluated by an credible and independent panel)
  • Must submit a complete application packet, including all required information, identification photo, letters, essays, and required signatures 
  • To apply does not mean that one is accepted
  • Communication is essential and thus student or guardian must have access to reliable e-mail for communication and reporting  through our email info@oaksafrica.net

Progress Reports

Progress reports provide a means of accountability for spiritual and academic growth, and serve to encourage and motivate the student to do his/her best work each term. A brief report of student progress must be submitted to an assigned mentor at least twice each term.

The reports should include the following information:

  • How often do you meet with your mentor and what do you learn from these meetings?
  • How are you spending time during term breaks (athletics, performing arts, football, rugby etc.)?
  • What are you learning in class that excites you?

A copy of grades must be sent to info@oaksafrica.net at the end of each term.

Documentation From Educational /Religious Institutions/Administration:

  • Birth Certificate/Identification document
  • Status of student’s parents supporting documents
  • An Official letter from a credible social worker or Government official might assist while assessing qualification criteria of the student.
  • Official letter of acceptance from your educational institution managed by African leadership
  • Copy of most recent grade report for all currently enrolled students (C+ and above (or equivalent) will be considered for scholarship)

Partnering Institution Responsibilities, Criteria & Guidelines

Because OAF desires to build up African led institutions and godly religious organizations /churches, the awarding of an OAF scholarship requires participation and commitment from a sponsoring African-rooted partner.  The partnering institution (Church, Religious or Cultural group) will provide the following:

  • provide moral and spiritual support for the student
  • provide opportunities for student growth through involvement in local activities
  • ensure that the student will have someone to provide mentoring support, either through the partnering institution or through the student’s educational institution
  • maintain a vested interest in the student by contributing financially toward his/her educational and/or living expenses, according to the student’s needs and the institution’s ability
  • assist the student with regular progress reports, and ensure that the student submits a report, including term grades, to the OAF organization each school term
    maintain accurate contact information with the OAF office–ensure that e-mail addresses are correct and updated as needed
  • Please retain a copy for your files as a reminder of your agreement.
 

Program Application Guidelines

Letters Of Recommendation

Letter # 1 should be from a pastor, religious leader, cultural leader/elder, or community leader in the student’s home church, or partnering institution sponsor, and should affirm the following:

  • Please state your position in the institution/community and explain the need for this degree
  • The student possesses a love for God and man
  • The student has a manifested passion to pursue studies as part of his/her purpose
  • The student’s goals for education, vocation, and society / ministry are in keeping with specific goals/plans that the church/society/religious institution  is pursuing  

Letter # 2 should be from a friend, employer, teacher, or associate who has known the student for at least two years, and should affirm the following:

  • The student’s character, integrity, strong work ethic, humility, leadership qualities, and academic capability
Student Essays

It is essential to demonstrate an ability to communicate your personal belief values, your personal life journey and testimony and academic and life goals very clearly.  Your essays should include the following:

Essay #1:Statement of personal belief values”

  • Write a brief description of what you belief in and why.
  • How does your church/religious institution deal with the conflicts between traditional African religion and your personal belief values?

Essay #2: “Personal life journey and Testimony” 

  • When were you born and where?
  • How and when did you experience a turning point in your life?
  • What is your inspiration and goal in your life?
  • How do you intend to achieve these goals in life?

Essay #3:“Educational & Vocational Goals” 

  • What are your goals for your career, ministry, and/or vocation, and how will obtaining the certificate, degree, or diploma help you accomplish these goals?

How do your goals support the specific goals of your partnering institution and how will you work with your partnering institution or community after your training is completed?
